UK Butterflies

May 2014 to Jul 2015 was my big butterfly year (and a bit). It didn't start off as such but as the year moved on we started to build an impressive list. The crunch came in July 2015 when we found a very late Chequered Skipper in Glasdrum Woods. It was a bit tatty but it was still flying so a life tick. Fifty eight species by the end of July would have been possible except that I had missed the trip to Norfolk to see the Swallowtail back in June. In retrospect not one of my better decisions.

I did actually finish 2015 on fifty eight species when we managed to photograph a long-tailed Blue freshly emerged at the end of October. A good couple of years but still missing that Swallowtail.

Fifty Nine Species shown below. Targets left still to find, if the wind is from the continent, Large Tortoiseshell, Queen of Spain and Camberwell Beauty.

  1. Might want to look at your Small Heath, but some cracking photos love the one of the Silver Spotted Skipper.

  2. I did check but it still looks like a Small Heath to me. However, thanks for the comment and for taking an interest in the blog.
